If you’re a side or stomach sleeper constantly waking up with neck, shoulder, or back pain, you know how frustrating it can be to find the right pillow. I’ve tried multiple cervical neck pillows (including ones with shoulder cutouts) but nothing seemed to fully relieve the pressure on my shoulders or prevent my arm from falling asleep.
That said, I recently discovered the Sleep Again Pillow System, and it’s a game-changer. Created by Rachel Baumel and Kate Devlin, two women passionate about helping people sleep and heal better, this system is like being wrapped in a supportive cocoon.

The Sleep Again Pillow System was designed by a breast cancer survivor specifically to address the challenges that come with sleeping after surgery, injury, or medical recovery. Rachel developed the system after multiple surgeries, piecing together pillows to create her own “life raft” that made sleeping on her back comfortable again. What started as a personal necessity evolved into a customizable, therapeutic sleep system for anyone recovering from surgery or managing pain.
I’ve had a couple of minor procedures myself, and I can honestly say this system would have helped me tremendously. The support it provides to the head, neck, back, and legs makes sleeping more comfortable and reduces pressure in sensitive areas—a huge benefit for anyone recovering from surgery or dealing with lingering discomfort.
Each Sleep Again Pillow System includes:
Two Contoured Side Pillows to cradle your back and hips
Upper Body Wedge to promote optimal upper body incline
Leg Support Wedge to gently elevate legs and relieve pressure
Head Pillow to provide neck support and alignment
Removable, washable slipcovers for every piece
One of the best features is the ability to customize the system to fit your body and preferred sleep position. You can arrange the pillows and wedges depending on where you need the most support—perfect for alleviating shoulder strain, hip pressure, or maintaining spinal alignment. It truly feels like a personalized sleep therapy system rather than just a set of pillows.
My experience: this system is incredibly comfortable, supportive, and soothing—almost buoyant. For the first time in years, I was able to sleep on my back without effort, and I can see myself training my body to sleep on my back, which could help reduce long-term neck, shoulder, and arm issues. My first thought after settling in was, “Who needs a mattress?” (Indeed—it could almost serve as a last-minute guest bed or replace a blow-up mattress for guests!)
A few minor drawbacks: the system is substantial, so getting in and out of it can be tricky, especially if you’re recovering from lower-body surgery. While it comes with a handy travel bag, moving it from room to room or bringing it on a trip is a bit cumbersome.
Also, if you sleep with a partner, the system takes up a lot of space and makes blanket-sharing or cuddling more difficult.
The Sleep Again Pillow System retails for $329 (currently on sale for $299) and is available on their website. If you’re seeking relief from neck and shoulder pain, post-surgery discomfort, or back strain, this system is worth considering. Its thoughtful design, customizability, and focus on recovery make it a truly restorative solution for better, pain-free sleep.
Disclosure: I was provided this product to review. A special thank you to Rachel and Kate for taking the time to correspond and chat with me about their system.
